The Crocosmias blooming now in my garden, are very tall, over 50 inches. Native to the grasslands of Eastern Africa, Croscosmias are in the iris family and iris-like, they grow from rhizomes.
In the African grasslands, they have more room to spread out than they do in my garden. Every few years the clumps grow so big that I have to pull half of them out.
They are not fragrant, but last a long time in a vase and so I bring them inside.
