The Drought Tolerant Garden

This garden is a mixture

of California native plants

and plants from

other dry parts of the world.

The colors are subtle.

The textures are extreme,

sharp and pointy and

soft.

Some Places in my Garden

I spend many hours in my garden this time of year.

April may be the garden's prettiest month.

There are several places to sit

in the shade with

something to read.

Ixia

Ixia are meadow flowers from South Africa.  They bloom in my garden in April.

They are sometimes called

Wand Lilies or

Corn Flowers.

The Spanish Colonial Revival House

The Spanish Colonial Revival style of Architecture began around 1915 and lasted for about 30 years. It is found most often in California and Florida.  This house was built in 1929.

It has the classic elements of that period: a balcony,

a courtyard and arched windows,

a carved front door,

exposed beams in the living room,

stained glass windows,

cast iron stair railings and light fixtures,

and vivid bathroom tile.

Gallery Visit

At the Landing Gallery in Culver City, California,

paintings by

Yevgeniya Baras.

It seems she paints on wood

or burlap, like Paul Klee.
