Citrus

I have been picking the lemons from my tree (avocados too).

I have so many that I preserve the lemons, slicing them, salting them and layering them in a colander for a day.

The jar on the left are lemons in lemon juice, the ones on the right are in olive oil.  It takes about a month before they are ready to be used.   They can be kept in the refrigerator for months.

The kumquats on my tree are also ripe.

I have sliced them into a beet and endive salad.

Paperwhite Narcissus

The Paperwhite narcissus (Narcissus papyraceus) are now

blooming in clumps all over my garden.

They are native to the western Mediterranean region.

Because they are so fragrant, I bring

them inside.

Late January in my Garden

A flock of robins has settled in my area for the last few days.  From what I can see they are eating berries and not foraging on the ground like the summertime robins.

A hummingbird's nest from last summer has blown out of a tree in a storm.

The fava beans are blooming,

as well as violets,

Kalanchoe,

and Camellia japonica.
