Poppies

I have Shirley Poppies growing in my garden,  Papaver rhoeas, derived from the wild European poppies.

The buds start out curled downward. They will straighten when they are ready to bloom.

The poppies are very attractive to bees.

I have three shades of pink: light,

middle,

and darker.

They are not easy to bring into the house.  They stems have to be singed with a match before putting into water.

I will have plenty of seeds for scattering next fall.

Some of the trees have been growing for decades and are very large.

The one in my garden is smaller

and every May

it starts to bloom.

Bowl of Roses

I have a bowl, hand painted with roses.  On the underside it is signed with the name "Clement" and the date: 1906.

This time of year, with the roses in bloom, it is filled with flowers.

Eden Roses

My Eden rose is a climbing rose and blooms later than my other roses.

It is beautiful in all stages, from the barely

opened bud,

to the full flower.

The flowers are so heavy that they tend to hang over.

When I bring them inside, they last a long time.

Zephirine Drouhin

Zephirine Drouhin is a rose developed in France in the 19th century.

It blooms in my garden before all the other roses.

My plants are covered with flowers all at once.

Then they are finished until next year.
